Redhill School is excited to invite candidates for the newly created role of Head of Library Services. This new position signifies the school’s commitment to the development and leadership of innovative library services to meet the changing information needs of students and staff across the K-12 campus. The Head of Library Services is responsible at all times to the Executive Head and Director of Curriculum and Assessment for the effective performance of duties relating to the provision of library services. The incumbent is expected to support at all times the school’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures.
The successful candidate will have an intimate understanding of and significant experience in addressing the major challenges facing School Libraries today, including rapid changes in the discovery and access of data, information, and knowledge; creative and effective use of physical space; and, changing roles of School libraries as places, purveyors of information, supporters of research and teaching, enablers of learning, and creators of knowledge. At Redhill School, this requires open communication and consensus building across multiple constituencies with distinct aspirations and diverse goals. Develop and maintain strategic and operational plans for library services that are aligned with the mission and values of the school and that support the goals of the various divisions and departments.
Design and implement programs and initiatives that further the integration and blending of both educational technology and library systems.
Oversee the research and evaluation of emerging technologies, information literacy, library services, and innovative curricular techniques.
Help develop a culture of creative innovation to meet the dynamic and evolving needs of an excellent 21st century school, by being an inspirational yet patient leader of best practices in innovation, experimentation, and technology integration.
Professional Qualifications and Personal Qualities
Redhill School is looking for candidates who can demonstrate:
A strong set of technology and library skills, and relevant professional training. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is a minimum requirement, though a graduate degree in management, instructional technology, information systems, library science, or other relevant field is highly desirable.
Experience working in a technology and/or library department of an educational institution. Prior classroom teaching experience is highly desirable.
Strong communication skills: written, verbal, presentation, and training.
A thoughtful but determined approach to change management and department unification—while remaining true to organizational goals and community culture.
A collaborative, cooperative, and patient mind-set.
Visionary leadership that is in tune with the needs of a dynamic and diverse staff.
