Job Description

St John’s D.S.G., established in 1897 by the Sisters of St John the Divine, is situated in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It is an Anglican, independent, day and boarding school for 530 girls (Junior School and Senior School), and is a member of the Independent Schools’ Association of Southern Africa. St John’s has a strong community ethos that gives it a distinct character.

Applicants are invited to apply for the following full-time position:


Grade 8 – 12

Effective January, 2019 or by mutual agreement

The successful applicant should:

Be S.A.C.E. registered. A copy of the S.A.C.E. certificate must accompany the application.
Have the requisite academic and professional qualifications.
Have an effective and passionate approach to teaching and be able to motivate pupil participation.
Preferably have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience.
Possess excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
Be prepared to commit to upholding the core values and Christian ethos of the school.
Be committed to the extra-curricular activities of the school.
Have evidence of clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register, before being appointed.


A package commensurate with the position and relevant qualifications and experience will be negotiated during the interview process and no indication of the salary can be given telephonically.
