Clinical Specialist – Diagnostic Services
A vacancy exists for a Clinical Specialist – Diagnostic Services, based at Life Healthcare Head Office reporting to Dr. Riyas Fadal, National Complementary Services Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible to develop, implement and sustain Point of Care (POC) operational processes and standards in keeping with good laboratory practice principles, at hospital and head office level in support of the safe and effective management of blood gasses service delivery.

Critical Outputs
Effective implementation of blood gasses services at hospitals

Plan, coordinate and support the implementation of new and existing blood gas machines and point of care services at hospitals
Review and update operational work procedures annually to align to the requirements established by SANAS for Good laboratory practice and ISO 9001
Support the line and nursing function by reviewing; planning and coordinating operator training and certification for end-users and super-users at hospital level nationally.
Ensure that all new and existing blood gas units are online and connected to RapidComm, and, notify systems controllers and clinical engineers when blood gas units are off-line in excess of 72 hours.
Effective implementation and management of a quality management systems for blood gasses

Support Head Office functions in incorporating their relevant blood gas service delivery responsibilities into the Life Healthcare Quality Management System (QMS)
Ensure the implementation of an external quality assurance (EQA) program at hospitals
Monitor and report on EQA findings monthly; identify trends and variances; and in consultation with the relevant experts and Siemens support hospitals to achieve the standards for EQA.
Support the line by investigating; reviewing; and managing incidents and complaints received relating to blood gas service delivery.
Ensure effective delivery of the blood gas service at hospital level

Develop an internal risk audit framework and participate in hospital audits to identify gaps in meeting the blood gas implementation requirements for good laboratory practice to include adequacy of data storage; test history; capturing of patient details; operator identification and certification; and adequacy of internal and external quality assurance.
Support the line in maintaining the ISO 9001 accreditation and closing non-conformance gaps
Effective relationship management

Agree and establish communication channels with Siemens for sharing of information for reporting purposes; oversight and monitoring progress with training schedules; management of unresolved incidents experienced at hospital level; and implementation of new blood gas units.
Effective monitoring and reporting

Monitor and report monthly on blood gas unit downtime; Siemens call outs; cartridge utilisation; and incidents and complaints to identify opportunities for improvement in service delivery.
Report monthly on the progress of the operator training and certification in accordance with the training schedule.
Current registration with HPCSA regulatory body
At least 5 years’ experience practicing as a medical technologist
Clinical experience and proven leadership / line management experience within the relevant diagnostic and pathology services
Understanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantage
Analytical skills including report development utilising excel, and Microsoft word is essential
Driver’s license and ability to travel
