The purpose of this position would be to ensure the identification of new protectable Intellectual Property (IP) emanating from the university’s research, the related maintenance of the IP portfolio and continued support for the academics and inventors by aiding in reporting and technology development processes. This individual should support the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) management, particularly the Technology Transfer Manager (TTM), in conducting market and feasibility studies by conducting research and collecting relevant data. This position is mainly about an outward drive of IP emanating from the University.
Provides administrative support to the TTO including administrative support to the TTM
Manage the IP Portfolio Database and captures relevant information for reporting purposes
Implements marketing and communication activities for the TTO
Commits to growing knowledge and gaining key experience in the field of Technology Transfer (TT).
A Bachelors’ Degree in engineering, science, or business (NQF level 7 or higher) plus approximately 1 years’ relevant experience where such experience includes:
Experience in IP management and commercialisation specialist areas such as: -
IP rich technology research and development
IP management e.g. procuring and/or reviewing novelty opinions, registered IP prosecution, IP due diligence
Commercialisation of IP e.g. negotiating and concluding IP licensing or assignment deals, market analyses, innovation funding and management etc.
Working in a technology transfer office
Appreciation of the typical processes involved in, and challenges of, protecting and commercializing intellectual property created in research intensive institutions
A passion for and interest in pursuing a career in the management and commercialisation of intellectual property
Sound understanding of the “IPR Act” and compliance requirements of a technology transfer office in a higher education institution.
