DEPARTMENT: INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
POSITION: DIRECTOR: BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE (P4)
(5-YEAR FIXED-TERM CONTRACT)

Unisa is the only publicly funded Higher Education Institution in South Africa dedicated to
distance education. In keeping with its mandate as a comprehensive, Open and Distance
Learning (ODL) Institution offering a variety of academic and career-focused programmes,
Unisa is inviting applications for the position of Director: Business Intelligence.
The purpose of the position is to support the institution with Business Intelligence information
for strategic, planning, decision making, operational, and statutory reporting (e.g. HEMIS).
The incumbent does so by having to:
 Participate in the development of Business intelligence strategy and development of
Operational Plan (DOP)
 Manage Business Intelligence Function
 Statutory Reporting
 Manage Information Portal
 Analytic Systems
 Manage Staff/Resources
Requirements
 Minimum Honours Degree in Information Systems or related quantitative management
master’s degree. Preference will be given to candidate with Master’s Degree.
 Minimum of 10 (ten) years’ in relevant work experience, of which 5 (five) years’ experience
should be at management level within the production of management information and
analysis or business intelligence
 Relevant ICT Skills: Proficiency in SQL, Microsoft Office products (such as Word, Excel,
PowerPoint) and demonstrated competency in the use of Cloud-based technologies.
Knowledge, skills and abilities required for the successful accomplishment of the job,
which include:
 Higher Education policies, Acts and Frameworks
 National Qualifications Framework
 Development of Policies and Procedures
 Strategic Thinking and Analytic skills
 BI Management experience (Data warehouse management)
 Decision making
 Hands on experience of managing data warehouse, BI Systems development and IT
environment
