Job Description

Requirements include:
 Appropriate qualification at NQF Level 8, preferably in IS, IT, or Data Science. (PG Diploma or Honours degree or 4 Year
Bachelor’s degree or other qualification equivalent to NQF 8):
 2 years’ experience in an academic or research related environment;
 Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills;
 Research support skills;
 Information management skills, such as data analytics, data/text mining, GIS, and text encoding;
 Good interpersonal relationships skills;
 Ability to work independently as well as being a strong team player.
Responsibilities include:
Digital Scholarship
 Supports and makes use of digital methods of inquiry and research;
 Tests and implements new technologies to support digital humanities (DH) across the university;
 Supports the computational analysis of online data sets across the various academic disciplines;
 Collaborates with trans and inter-disciplinary research programs.
Digital Collections Support
 Works effectively with colleagues in Digital Library Services;
 Supports researchers in the development of research-led online collections of distinction;
 Supports access to the Universities’ digital scholarship produced in all formats.
Discovery and Reuse
 Collaborates with Discovery Services to enhance the visibility of digital library collections;
 Keeps up to date with key digital information issues such as: digital copyright, digital curation, digital repositories, and
research data management;
 Implements the use of cloud-based tools and services.
Scholarly Publishing
 Supports good scholarship in the stewardship of digital collections, data sets and non-data research objects;
 Explores digital scholarship trends as drivers of digital publication.
Project Management
 Participates in or manages digital scholarship projects;
 Develops and maintains collaborative relationships across research support units on campus.
 Works independently and collaboratively with colleagues to identify current and emerging digital scholarship projects and to
understand and implement strategies to support student and faculty needs.
