Position: Health and Conservation Coordinator

Conservation South Africa, as a local affiliate of Conservation International, is committed to helping societies adopt a more sustainable approach to development—one that considers and values nature at every turn and improves human well-being through the conservation of healthy ecosystems and the goods and services they provide. Conservation South Africa seeks to influence policy, develop markets, engage the private sector, and support communities to develop and implement conservation- based economic growth models and long-term human well-being.

This position will work closely with the Municipal Support Coordinator in the delivery of CSA’s municipal support project portfolio, namely: the climate change response strategy and WASH in Watersheds. The position will involve project coordination, communication and stakeholder engagement in a way that strengthens the institution’s operational efficiencies, sustainability and ultimately maximizes local conservation impact potential.

The main duties of this position are:
To work in field to build, maintain and enhance relationships with local and district level municipal partners, traditional authorities, partners and other stakeholders.
To prepare case studies and communications pieces that tell the story of community partners working to protect rangelands, water resources and community health.
To collate and contribute to monthly reports and minutes from CSA meetings with stakeholders to ensure that accurate records reflect the impact of conservation activities and one health principles within the community.
To coordinate CSA administration for the volunteers in the villages, including timesheets, payroll documents

Requirements
Degree in Social Science / Arts / Anthropology with minimum 5 years’ experience
Written and verbal fluency in English and isiXhosa
Valid driver’s license and minimum one-year driving experience
Field Support and community interaction skills
Communications skills: internal (storytelling, case studies, tool development) and external (donor reporting)
Good presentation, written and verbal communication skills
Experience using MS Excel and MS Word
Demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse working environment
workplace.

Preferred:
Environmental background or experience with stakeholder engagement, freshwater, health and the human environment
Microsoft publisher, InDesign or other DTP skills
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Experience of using a Rights-based Approach to community engagement
Proven ability to work effectively across cultures, establish and manage effective collaborations

This position is a 12-month contract based in the CSA office in Matatiele, Eastern Cape.
