The Regional Maintenance Engineer is required to provide specialist expertise to the organisation through a combination of high impact personal deliverables; and with collaborative contributions through technical operations support.

The Regional Maintenance Engineer is required to provide specialist expertise to the organisation through a combination of high impact personal deliverables; and with collaborative contributions through technical operations support.

Direct deliverables for this role include, but are not limited to:

· Analysing equipment performance and maintenance expenditure to identify areas to continuously improve equipment reliability, optimise maintenance costs and minimise waste.

· Contextualisation and rapid implementation of best practice maintenance shut planning processes, providing for the level of current practices and financial context of Sugar business, with a roadmap for improvement as processes and skills levels align and mature.

· Developing and the rolling out actionable technical standards in Maintenance Engineering to achieve sustained improvements in related business processes and behaviours including quality control standards for 3rd party engineering work.

· Developing and implementing standard critical spares strategies and processes.

· Developing standard scope of works and technical elements of Service Level Agreements for select, critical engineering maintenance services.

· Providing technical expertise for select group tenders, particularly for off-crop annual long lead items.

· Facilitation of process to assess plant equipment criticality and to determine and document appropriate risk mitigation strategies for each.

· Actively engaging with and managing select strategic service providers, in collaboration with Procurement department, to ensure quality and on-time delivery.

· Engaging with new and improved service providers, vetting technical capabilities and facilitating trials.

Technical Support functions include:

· Working in collaboration with senior technical staff (Ops execs, GMs, Engineering Managers) on matters relating to maintenance strategies and improvement initiatives.

· Providing close, collaborative support to mill based Plant Engineers and in-country Support Engineers to improve equipment performance, reliability and maintenance costs.

· Providing direction on the necessary activities to continuously improve equipment reliability, optimise maintenance costs and minimise waste.

· Providing specialist support to operations to improve forecasting, planning and execution of major overhaul and equipment replacement projects.

· Working collaboratively with stakeholders to optimise all maintenance engineering processes that are implemented through PDCA continuous improvement cycles.

· Developing and implementing standards for routine major maintenance interventions on select, high impact equipment.

· Playing a key role in the building of maintenance engineering competence in the organisation by providing coaching, training and technical expertise.

· Keeping up to date with industry developments in maintenance engineering via literature reviews and industry networking, and disseminating learnings to Tongaat Hulett factories.

· Fostering knowledge sharing and best practice.

· Fostering a culture of striving to be world class through continuous improvement activities.

The role requires periodic travel to operations and suppliers across South Africa and outside of South Africa including Mozambique and Zimbabwe.

Candidate Requirements
· BSc Eng or BTech (Mechanical/Electrical), from an institution accredited by the Engineering Council of South Africa for registration as a Professional Engineer/Technologist.

· Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in a heavy industrial process environment with focus on maintenance, operation, performance optimisation and equipment design.

· Strong track record in planning and executing equipment maintenance outages and improvement projects.

· Experience in sugar specific technologies, steam generation, steam turbines, pressure vessels and/or bulk handling equipment would be advantageous.

· Working experience of SAP PM would be advantageous.
